Børge Mogensen earned his cabinetmaker’s certificate in 1934 in Aalborg. From 1936 to 1938, he studied at the Danish School of Arts and Crafts, where he attended alongside fellow designer Hans J. Wegner. Between 1945 and 1947, Mogensen worked as an assistant to Professor Kaare Klint at the School of Furniture Design.

Most people know Børge Mogensen as the furniture designer who, through the Danish Consumers’ Co-operative Society (FDB), brought high-quality furniture at affordable prices into Danish homes. He later went on to create some of the most celebrated furniture classics of the 1950s and 1960s. His portfolio is extensive, reflecting his remarkable productivity. Inspiration could strike at any moment, and his ideas were often sketched on matchboxes, napkins, crumpled envelopes, or whatever happened to be within reach.

Børge Mogensen’s contribution to everyday furniture design is both vast and influential, leaving a lasting impact on generations of Danish households. In 2005, Bernstorffsminde A/S entered into an agreement with Alice Mogensen, Børge Mogensen’s widow, to relaunch the iconic Shaker Table and the BM1 Chair as a complete dining furniture collection.
